ADVENTURES AT SEA

In 1958 Pete Joined the Navy as a Signal Corps man.   In those days he had to learn the Semaphore Language which was the Language of Flags.  He had to become proficient in Morse Code both with the signal light and the radio telegraph key.  He spent his career in the Navy "On the Bridge", rather than stuck in a hold below decks, But he loved to cook so whenever he could get away with it he could be found in the kitchen learning another trade that was both a hobby and part of his Resume when he wanted to go back to sea.   In his first year in the navy he survived a Huge Typhoon off the coast of Japan in a Flat Bottomed LST.  A ship that was very uncomfortable to say the least even in a little bit of a blow.

Later in his seagoing career he Fished in Alaska and in the Tasmanian sea off of New Zealand.  He skippered a Herring boat for awhile, then a pusher type of boat building islands in the Bering Sea, he worked a crab boat in Florida, several Supply boats in the Gulf of Mexico, and his first Tug when they had the strike in Houston.  His escapes from the clutches of bad seas were many.  But working the tugboats from Seattle to Alaska put him in the hospital and landed him on full disability.

After spending time in New Zealand, where he loved the outdoor life in "The Bush", his favorite breakfast being Fresh caught Trout.   He moved on to Thailand.  In Thailand he met the Love of HIs Life Nung and they settled down on the Beach and Built a Home that was a combination Restaurant and minimart.

He spent the last 5 years of his life in his own personal Shangri-La.
